Laini's Ladies

After a long pause in this blog, I'm back and ready to post about my lovely discoveries in this world of paper dolls, paper crafts and illustration :)

Today I bring you the fabulous Laini's Ladies, created by Laini Taylor.

"Laini's Ladies adornments are approximately 9" tall from the tips of their bead toes to the top of their hanging hooks. The images and inspiring text appear on the front and back. They are made of paperboard covered with a gloss acrylic lacquer, then decorated with shining beads, ribbon and wire. Hang these anywhere - from a lamp, in a window, from a ceiling fixture. They come individually packed with a header card."

They are so lovely! I guess I'm getting some for myself. Looks like they will be gone soon, so I have to get some for sure :)

I LOVE rabbits!
Even without noticing it, I have been collecting toys, illustrations and cute things with bunnies in it.

So, I've decided to embrace the lovely addiction, and I'm going to dedicate this month to cute and artsy bunnies around.

Today I was looking at some of my old magazines, and for my surprise, I found this beautiful Momoko paper doll :) what a delight! Momoko is lovely and elegant as a doll, but as a paper doll she is even cuter :)))

Another one of my favorite illustrators, Jill Barklem.
Brambly Hedge is a feast for my eyes!
Today I was watching some cartoons with my son, and Brambly Hedge was the one which made us smile :)! What a delight! I couldn't resist to blog about it!

Yesterday was one of the best mail days I've ever had :D
I was looking for these wonderful paper dolls for years (yes years), and finally I found them and they are home with me <3
I can't explain the delight I feel when I look at these amazing drawings! Such sweetness, kindness and beauty!
I don't know wich one I love the most, I love them all!

Now, I just want to draw and draw even more, and expect that someday I can achieve a level like this (in my own style of drawing of course) in my work!

Betsy McCall has been one of the most popular characters in the paper doll and doll world!
This little girl has started has a paper doll in the McCall's ladies magazine in 1951, and since then many versions and updates have been made.

When I was a little girl, my mom used to buy some little squared books with delightful illustrations that I looked at for hours <3
I still have some and I am trying to find the ones I don't have anymore.
Today I've received some more in the mail and I'm really happy with them!
I've decided to make a search about the illustrator of these books, and imagine my surprise when I found some really adorable paper dolls created by her :D

Molly Brett, a treasure!

I have this passion for the work of some ladies from the two past centuries! One of them is Molly Brett!
I just love her little happy critters so much! Aren't they adorable?!!! I think they are!
I got these three postcards from Ebay, and couldn't be more happy with them :D
Now I have to get some lovely frames and put these on my walls!

One of these days during some internet searching, I found these strange dolls. I say they are strange because I haven't decided yet if I like them or not :)...
They are called Flatsy Dolls.
Flatsy Dolls were made by Ideal Toy Company in the late sixties of the last century.
I also found this image of a paper version, and at Amazon I found the modern version of the dolls, now created by Schylling Toys.

This amazing Japanese man has been creating the most adorable illustration since many years!
I love the stylized yet cute way he draws.

Favorite Paper Doll artist - Kathy Lawrence

My favorite paper doll Artist is a lady called Kathy Lawrence.
I'm the lucky owner of a book from her, "The Hopper Family", and I hope to bring some more home very soon!
I just love her style so much! Her cute and delicate animals make me think about those amazing lady artists from the nineteenth century (Beatrix Potter, Edith Holden, Molly Brett...).
Her work makes me smile :)

Queen Holden's daughter, Kathy Lawrence, often the model for her mother's lovely paper dolls, is a fine artist in her own right today, perhaps surpassing her mother's work in quality (but not in popularity, as the heyday of paper dolls had passed by the time she became a paper doll artist). Kathy's first published paper doll, done for Whitman, was Tiny Tot Shop, 1969, similar to her mother's Tots Toggery of the 1940s, followed by her darling Beth Ann, 1970. We can find Kathy's exquisite work today in the American Greetings card racks, showing her winsome children, adorable babes and cute animals. Kathy created paper dolls and other products for B. Shackman from 1980 to 1985, so the tradition goes on."
